Balance for Better – International Women’s Day, 8 March 2019
In today’s world, women are empowered not only to reign from the kitchen but also from the boardroom. This breakthrough began in 1851, when two women, Susan B Anthony, and Elizabeth Stanton, formed a historical friendship, an alliance to support women’s suffrage. It was the stepping stone that leads to the change, within the traditional gender roles, that allows women to contribute much more to the community. Therefore, this year’s theme for the International Women’s day 2019, “Balance for Better” rings an important message that women need a greater coalition among themselves.
As the world gets more liberated, we find much disturbing news of divorces, single mums, and hear more about women being left alone with their kids, to fend off poverty with added emotional struggles. Even successful women might find difficulties at their workplace and are forced with issues and guilt of not being good enough as a woman or a mum. I suppose when the United Nations in 1977 proclaimed March 8 to celebrate International Women’s day for women’s right and world peace, is within a mentionable irony. Within the daily turmoil of life, women need to strive for inner peace to create that rippled effect towards their community and the world. It takes a lot of courage and could be intimidating to step out for help as we live in a very superficial world and often been hurt too many times in our fragility. Nevertheless, women are now more aware of the need to help other women, thanks to similar women like Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton in today’s society, who are in nature very resourceful. Such we have many NGO women’s organizations, Religious organizations, Fair Trade Organizations and Government initiatives being run for women to reach out and build communities together sharing our stories while solving our troubles.
In line with this year’s #IWD2019, let’s look at their agenda on #BalanceforBetter campaign.
